Why we built it

Most freelancers don't hit a billing problem until the first time a client asks for “a proper invoice.” Then comes the scramble: a half-finished spreadsheet, a Word file with the columns slightly off, or a free tool that stamps its own logo across your document and asks for your email before it lets you download anything.

InvoiceYard started as a fix for exactly that. We wanted a place where you could land on a page for your trade, see a template already filled in with sensible line items, tweak a few fields, and download a tidy PDF, Excel, or Word file in under a minute — without an account and without paying.

We're a small, independent project. That keeps us honest: there's no sales team steering you toward a paid plan, because there isn't one. The site is free to use and supported by unobtrusive advertising.

How we keep things accurate

Invoicing touches tax, and tax rules differ from country to country. We take that seriously. Every template and guide is tailored to the country it's written for — UK VAT invoices show a VAT number and the 20% rate, Australian tax invoices use the “Tax Invoice” heading and an ABN, Canadian invoices reference GST/HST, and US invoices reflect that sales tax varies by state.

Before anything goes live, our content goes through a multi-pass review for three things: that the English reads naturally, that the tax and compliance details are correct for the relevant country, and that nothing on the page is misleading. Where a topic gets into genuine legal or tax territory, we say so plainly and point you to the official source or a professional.

One honest caveat: our guides are educational, not formal tax or legal advice. Rules change and individual circumstances vary — for anything that affects your filings, check with your local tax authority or an accountant.

What's on the site

Your data stays yours

The invoice generator runs entirely in your browser. The names, amounts, and client details you type are never sent to us — when you download a file, it's assembled on your own device. For more on what we do and don't collect, see our privacy policy.

Got a template request, spotted something wrong, or just want to say hello? We read everything — get in touch.
