About us
We make billing less of a chore
InvoiceYard is a free invoicing guide and resource for freelancers and small businesses. No sign-up, no catch — just clear writing that helps you get paid.
Why we built it
Most freelancers don't hit a billing problem until the first time a client asks for "a proper invoice." Then comes the scramble: a half-finished spreadsheet, a Word file with the columns slightly off, or a free tool that stamps its own logo across your document and asks for your email before it lets you download anything.
InvoiceYard started as a fix for exactly that. We wanted a place where you could find a clear, practical guide for your situation — whether you're writing your first invoice, figuring out VAT, or chasing a late payment — without wading through marketing copy or being funnelled into a subscription.
We're a small, independent project. That keeps us honest: there's no sales team steering you toward a paid plan, because there isn't one. The site is free to use and supported by unobtrusive advertising.
How we keep things accurate
Invoicing touches tax, and tax rules differ from country to country. We take that seriously. Every guide is written with the relevant jurisdiction in mind — UK guides reference VAT and HMRC rules, US guides cover state-level sales tax, and Australian guides use the correct "Tax Invoice" terminology and ABN requirements.
Before anything goes live, our content goes through a multi-pass review for three things: that the English reads naturally, that the tax and compliance details are correct for the relevant country, and that nothing on the page is misleading. Where a topic gets into genuine legal or tax territory, we say so plainly and point you to your local tax authority or a professional.
One honest caveat: our guides are educational, not formal tax or legal advice. Rules change and individual circumstances vary — for anything that affects your filings, check with your local tax authority or an accountant.
Who writes InvoiceYard
Daniel Reed Founder & Editor
Daniel Reed is the founder and editor of InvoiceYard. He built the site's free invoice generator and writes the practical guides covering invoicing, payment terms, and tax compliance for freelancers and small businesses. When a guide touches tax territory he digs into the relevant rules — UK VAT, US sales tax, Australian GST — and flags where a professional's advice is the right next step.
Every article goes through the same multi-pass review described above — accurate terminology for the relevant jurisdiction, plain language, and an honest caveat wherever professional advice is the safer path. If you spot something wrong or out of date, get in touch and Daniel will look into it.
